  BEACH RULES

Lifeguard is in complete control of the beach at all times and has authority to enforce the following rules:

Swimming Rules:

  • Lifeguards are allowed, at anytime to ask individuals to demonstrate competent swimming by having them swim the full distance (back and forth) of the swim lane without holding onto the ropes.
  • To utilize the floating dock and swim lane area, one must be a competent swimmer.
  • No one is allowed to hang on the ropes.
  • No rough housing or fighting will be allowed at any time.
  • No swimming is allowed under any of the docks.
  • No swimming allowed during an electrical storm.
  • Water toys shall not be used outside of the roped shallow area.
  • Do not enter the water if you are experiencing or recovering from diarrhea or stomach virus.
  • Children who are not potty trained must use swim diapers.
  • Children who can not swim without a flotation device can not use the diving board, or swim outside of the shallow roped area unless accompanied by an adult for lesson purposes.
  • While a lifeguard is on duty:
    • LAC members age 14 and over can swim without adult supervision (provided they are competent swimmers) – allowed maximum of 2 guests also age 14 or over.
    • LAC members age 13 can swim/use because without adult supervision – but can not bring guests
    • 16 is minimum age to baby-sit children under age 13.

When the Lifeguard is not on duty: Persons under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. NO SWIMMING ALONE!

If repetitive rules/guidelines are broken, possible suspension from the beach will take place. Suspension is at the Lifeguards discretion, because the LIFEGUARD is in complete control of the beach at all times and has the authority to enforce the rules.

Per the NEW JERSEY STATE SANITARY CODE

CHAPTER IX - PUBLIC RECREATIONAL BATHING
8:26-5.4 Bather rules for swimming pools, wading pools, hot tubs and spas

  • Rules governing admission, bathing, and conduct of patrons shall be conspicuously posted and shall include at a minimum the following provisions verbatim:
    1. Any person showing evidence of any communicable skin disease, sore or inflamed eyes, cold, nasal or ear discharges, or any other communicable disease shall be denied admission.
    2. Any person with excessive sunburn, open blisters, cuts, or bandages shall be denied admission.
    3. Do not enter the water if you are experiencing or recovering from diarrhea or have had any signs or symptoms of a gastrointestinal (stomach) disease in the past seven days.
    4. All children in diapers must wear plastic pants with snug fitting elastic waist and leg bands. Do not wash out soiled diapers in the bathing water.
    5. Children should be encouraged to use the restroom before entering the water. Immediately report any "accidents" you observe in the bathing waters to a lifeguard.
    6. No animals, except for service animals, shall be allowed in the swimming pool, wading pool, hot tub, or spa area, dressing rooms, or other parts of the enclosure.
    7. Glass containers shall be prohibited in food and drink areas.
    8. All persons shall shower before entering the water.
    9. Conduct which endangers the safety and supervision of the team swim coach; and comfort of others shall be prohibited.
    10. Outdoor bathing shall be prohibited during an electrical storm.
    11. Persons suspected of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol shall be prohibited from entering the water.
  • Policies and procedures regarding water toys and floating devices shall be established to ensure a safe bathing environment.
  • Per SUBCHAPTER 5. WATERFRONT SAFETY - 8:26-5.1 Specially exempt facilities
    When there is no lifeguard on duty, The following applies:
    Persons under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
    No swimming alone.
